Everfest's Take

From the Organizer

The Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts (OCCA) in collaboration with the Dallas Latino Cultural Center is proud to present the annual Dallas Fiestas Patrias. Dallas has been celebrating Mexican Independence Day for over 100 years with festivals, parades and the grito. The tradition will continue as thousands will be in attendance making this an important event in the Dallas cultural landscape. This year's festival will begin with a Cultural Expressions Showcase of traditional folkloric dance and performances on the theater stage. The Fiesta and Grito will be held on the south lawn hosting food vendors, exhibitors and more performances. A "Night Under the Stars" will honor individuals selected for the coveted Miguel Hidalgo Award with an outdoor dinner and awards program on the plaza surrounded by sculptures and a starry night. The evening will culminate with the Mexican Consul General ringing the bell of independence and giving the official grito.
