Fine art reprieve
The Cape Town International Jazz Festival always hosts a photographic exhibition at the Duotone Gallery. Featuring the work of amateur and professional photographers, it emphasizes the diversity of jazz globally. Exhibited artists have included: Alf Khumalo, Mike Mzeleni, Basil Breakey, Fanie Jason, George Hallett, Herman Lenard, and Uli Paschewoschny.
Look sharp
Each year, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival collaborates with a concurrent event, the Cape Town Fashion Festival, to mutually increase exposure and celebrate South African industry and artistry. The Fashion & All That Jazz Gala Dinner has become a staple of the festival; both highlight native craftspeople working in various disciplines.
Workshops and mentorship
The Cape Town International Jazz Festival hosts various workshops for youth musicians, some of whom are selected to perform each year on the main stage. Further, during the festival, panels addressing music industry trends are open to attendees.
Especially chill fare
The Rosies Stage is accessible to attendees for an extra fee and emphasizes understated, relaxed jazz music in a comfortable setting.
A toast to the community
The Free Community Concert is not only an additional opportunity to see world-class performers, but a window into the teeming cultural milieu of Cape Town. Mind the Green Market Square venue itself and wander throughout the surrounding city.
Tickets
Weekend passes sell out very quickly. Day passes linger a little longer but typically sell out as well. And don’t forget to buy a separate ticket for the Rosies stage, which run only a few extra dollars. (All prices are listed in South African Rand, meaning they’re subject to fluctuating exchange rates. Foreign currency exchange services are available on site.)
