More to explore
Ulaanbaatar has a surprisingly happening nightlife scene.
Ask for info
There are really no set schedules for any of the competitions, so ask at the tourist office or in your hotel.
Must-see
You can catch traditional throat singing at the dancing showcases, where you’ll want to have your camera ready to capture the stunning traditional clothing.
Taste something new
Try khuurshuur (cold meat pancakes), but go easy on the airag/arak, as Western stomachs are extra sensitive.
Chinggis Khaan International Airport
(ULN) is just southwest of Ulaanbaatar, but taking the trans-Mongolian railway from Russia or China is also a popular option. If you decide to take the train, book tickets early since this is the busiest time of year. One of the larger Naadam festivals outside of Ulaanbaatar is held around mid-July in Zuunmod, a town about 43 kilometers south of the capital.
