Bundle up at night
Things can get cold, especially in the more northern parts of Europe at this time of year. While the festival provides a chance to welcome the spring, expect cold temperatures and dress accordingly.
Dress as a witch
Who doesn't love an opportunity for some fancy dress? Don't expect to go "trick or treating" (although in some countries children do play pranks), but you can still have a lot of fun pretending to cast a spell on people.
Arrive early for the Cortège
If you plan on watching the parade in Gothenburg it would be wise to arrive early to get an unobstructed view. Upwards of 250,000 people attend this parade each year.
Where To Stay
Similar to Halloween, Walpurgisnacht is considered more of a tradition than a festival, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a place to stay during the festivities If you plan on visiting Gothenburg, there are flights from most major European cities into Landvetter Airport (GOT).
Safety Tip
The largest celebrations usually take place in or around university towns so be prepared for the stereotypical rowdiness when alcohol is involved. Use your best judgment to stay safe, especially around the bonfire.
