Insomniac Events has something new up its sleeve for Nocturnal Wonderland this weekend, and it’s going to be lit – black lit, that is. Fresh off the 20th anniversary of Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, the company known for its elaborate production and immersive music festivals is presenting a brand new stage and dance experience that has never been done before. The Labyrinth Stage – the festival’s main stage that's hosted many distinguished artists like Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buuren and Kaskade – will be modeled after an art installation which will transform an ordinary stage into a 360-degree, fully immersive environment.

Kitty-cornered at the edge of cosmicMeadow and attracting thousands of Headliners looking for a respite between sets, the Sky Bridge from this year’s EDC Las Vegas serves as inspiration for the Labyrinth. Bamboo pillars topped with glowing peaks shaped the foundation of the temple-like installation, where aerialists and acrobatics enticed lounging fans from its center. The Sky Bridge even hosted a surprise performance by Kaskade, who played his renowned Redux set until sunrise. Naturally, it made sense for this very installation to evolve into a new endeavor.

“We wanted to try something a bit different and not use your standard stage materials like trussing and scaffolding, so we instantly knew that [Sky Bridge] would be a great fit at Nocturnal Wonderland,” says Forrest Hunt, Executive Producer of Insomniac Events.

Hunt has been working hand in hand with the Sky Bridge designer, Insomniac artists, and stage production staff since the end of EDC this summer, creating the concept and detailing rigorous logistical elements. “Since the designer of the Sky Bridge had never constructed anything with bamboo this large before, we had to work very closely to marry the bamboo and the other elements that are incorporated into a massive 360-degree stage such as lighting, video, and special effects," he said. "Once the design was agreed upon, we had the drawings sent off to an engineer to make sure it could withstand weather conditions and heavy objects hanging from the framework.”

Standing at 50 feet tall and 250 feet in diameter, The Labyrinth Stage will surround Headliners from all sides with pillars that are connected via jungle bridges, which are made out of bamboo and hand-made rope. Here, costumed performers splattered in black light paint will dance throughout the weekend, interacting with fans from atop and contributing to the electrifying atmosphere. The pillars, which are covered in UV and black light paint, will illuminate the field once the sun sets, adding to the massive visual display radiating from stage lights and strobes, glow toys, and other special effects. Plants and trees will be placed around the bamboo bases to give The Labyrinth an organic ambiance that fits right into the scenic amphitheater.

“The artists that will be performing on The Labyrinth Stage are a mix from all reaches of the bass genre including some live acts such as Chromeo, Big Gigantic, and Pantyraid,” says Hunt. “Working with the organic theme ties right in with a lot of these acts and their bass/jam band sound.” Other artists set to perform at The Labyrinth include Hermitude, Keys N Krates, Mat Zo, Caspa b2b Rusko, Giraffage, and Gramatik.

The night comes alive this weekend, September 2-4, at the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California. Tickets are on sale here.
