Coachella is as synonymous with music festivals as it is with festival fashion. Since its inception in 1999, the Southern California spring festival has become an annual pilgrimage for the young and the stylish.

Street style photographers flock to Indio, California to shoot the coolest and the newest trends. The beautiful, stylish attendees are here to see and be seen. Sauntering through the polo fields during this three-day, two-weekend extravaganza feels like a Nylon Magazine editorial or Urban Outfitters catalog come-to-life.

Breezy boho babes channel a modern day Stevie Nicks in long, flowy dresses and skirts accessorized with statement ethnic jewelry, floppy hats and sunglasses. On the other end of the spectrum, edgy rock chicks don sheer and sexy cropped tops with denim cut-offs layered over their lithe bikini-clad bodies.  Wrists decorated with VIP bracelets and beer-in-hand finish off this Rihanna-inspired ensemble. The pounding desert heat soars past 100 degrees on occasion, giving concert goers more reason to flaunt the “less is more” bare skin look.

Besides lathering yourself in sunblock, parasols and hats are must-have accessories to protect from excessive sun exposure.  So don’t be shy, throw some shade.

Guys’ outfits range from the quirky, dapper festival gents in plaid shirts paired with color shorts/chinos, to urban surfers with graphic or striped tees and tanks worn with patterned shorts.  You’ll also find a gathering of vintage-inspired hipsters from Williamsburg to Silverlake and beyond, grazing at this music mecca.

Once the sun goes down, be sure to have warm layering pieces as temperatures drop drastically.  Scarves, hoodies, cardis, utility and motorcycle jackets are necessary to ward off the Coachella chill.

Here are several key fashion picks for Coachella. In the mix are some socially conscious brands to show you can do good by wearing well. Spread the word of conscious consumerism!
