Each October Treasure Island becomes...well, an island treasure. Typically shrouded in fog and a mysterious exit off the bridge on your way to the East Bay or San Francisco (depending on which way you're driving), this past weekend Treasure Island shrugged off the misty chill and opted for a spectacularly sunny couple days to welcome music fans, festivalgoers and lovers of a good time to its annual party, Treasure Island Music Festival.
Dijon Bowden of Souls of San Francisco was there to document the faces and fun. For more TIMF + Souls of San Francisco, see our full gallery here.
“We just got engaged! We’re here celebrating!
“This is our everyday attire. We’re here representing the Box Truck Theater. We’re showing a 10 minute movie in our box truck that we made specifically for this festival. It’s the best movie you’ll ever see, it’ll take you through all your emotions. I can give you a ticket and you can check it out right over there!”
“My favorite thing about this festival is that it’s so small. There are only 2 stages and they alternate the music so you get to see everybody.”
“Who are you most excited to see?”
“Alt-J…so excited!”
Left - “My favorite thing about festivals is the interactive art.”
Right - “For me it’s the amazing amounts of interesting people you can meet. Interacting with all of them. Getting into the experience. I feel like a lot of times it takes some time to get into the zone. But that challenge is really fun for me.”
“How do you get into the zone?”
“There’s all different kinds of entryways. One is music, dance, and sharing sensory experience with other people. You get centered in the zone. Then of course there’s inviting substances, totally not necessary but often helpful.”
Left - “I love OutKasssssssssssssssst!!!”
Right - “This is my first festival in San Francisco and this is rad. I love all the different types of people. I’m about to ride the ferris wheel!
“What’s the secret to being a pimp?”
“Stop trying, when you’re ready it’ll come to you.”
“We love being around great people who truly appreciate good music and art. Having a forum to come out and dance and be with each other in a beautiful setting.”
“As long as everyone’s dancing I’m happy.”
